The Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu has said that the commission will decisively deal with nation’s treasury looters either by making them to pay back or face the long arm of the law
The anti-corruption Czar, Magu said this in his Abuja office when he welcomed the leadership of the Print Media Publishers Guild (PMPG) which paid him a courtesy call.
A statement on Wednesday released in Abuja by the Guild’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Sunny Davids said Magu reiterated that “Corruption has eaten deeply into the fabric of the Nigerian society and all hands must be on deck to ensure that we save our country from this scourge”.
He also assured that “There shall be no sacred cow and the EFCC will not bow to any form of intimidation from any quarter.
“We are totally committed to this fight against corruption and by God’s grace we must succeed”, he said.
Magu promised to extend his hand of fellowship on behalf of the commission to the Guild.
According to Magu, “We are excited and happy to work and partner with the Print Media Publishers Guild of Nigeria. We have taken time to monitor the activities of your Guild in the Media and we are convinced that your activities and reportage is carried out with utmost sense of responsibility and integrity. We believe that your Guild is above board and cannot be compromised. This is why we are excited to work and partner with you”.
The Anti-corruption chief promised to give the Guild every necessary corporation to help her succeed in this patriotic and onerous task of sensitizing the citizenry on the ills and dangers of corruption.
Earlier, National President of the Guild, Mr. Oga Tom had pledged support and solidarity to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in its fight against corruption.
Continuing, Tom commended the current EFCC chair for his effort so far in the fight against corruption, which according to him, was unprecedented in the history of the nation.
In his words: “The resilience, doggedness and determination with which the EFCC under the leadership of Ibrahim Magu has been fighting corruption is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.
“We have seen an EFCC under Magu that is focused, committed and determined to pull down the hydra heeded monster called corruption which has turned the nation to a laughing stock in the eyes of the international community”
Also speaking, the Secretary General of the Guild, Pastor Peter Emuekpere promised that the organization will design different strategies and programmes to help sensitize Nigerians and dissuade them from engaging in corrupt practices.
