The National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Benue State has dismissed the application filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC for Benue South Senatorial District, Comrade Dan Onjeh, seeking a recount of the votes cast in February 25th, 2023, election, which was won by Sen. Abba Moro of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP.
Onjeh is contesting the election of Sen. Moro on the ground that it was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act 2022 as amended
In a ruling delivered on Wednesday, the chairman of the panel, Justice Ory Zik-Ikeorha held that the petitioner failed to provide enough evidence, maintaing that the application was pre-emptive and premature at this stage of pre-hearing.
The panel accordingly dismissed the application.
