Troops of Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued 41 travelers who were abducted after their vehicle broke down along a major highway in Tsafe Local Government Area, Zamfara State.
Preliminary reports indicated that the commercial vehicle traveling from Senegal to Kano State, developed a mechanical fault along the highway.
The bandits took advantage of the situation to target the stranded vehicle and moved the occupants into the surrounding area.
However, security forces acting on actionable intelligence, swiftly mobilized to the scene and engaged the armed group, forcing them to abandon the hostages and flee into nearby farmlands.
The Army said all 41 victims, comprising 24 males, 10 females, and 7 children,were successfully rescued unharmed.
It added that the rescued individuals are currently receiving necessary support and will be reunited with their families and transit authorities shortly.
The Army said that the troops are currently maintaining active presence in the area to ensure the safety of travelers and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
