Chelsea Manager, Thomas Tuchel will in the coming days find out if he will serve more punishments or not as the English football authority, FA has launched investigation into his comments regarding Anthony Taylor’s handling of Chelsea vs Tottenham match on Sunday at Stamford Bridge
Tottenham twice cam from behind to snatch a late equaliser against their London neighborhours in an ill-tempered match after controversial decisions by centre referee Taylor.
Tuchel was deeply unhappy with the nature of Spurs’ two goals, the first of which came after Kai Havertz was challenged and the visitors broke. Later in the Premier League encounter, deep into added time, Cristian Romero avoided being sent off for violent conduct after replays showed him pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair during a Spurs corner.
Adding to Chelsea’s fury, Tottenham equalised through Harry Kane through another corner just seconds later. Tuchel did not attempt to hide his anger with the match officials during his post-match press conference and admitted he “absolutely” shares the problem Blues fans have with Taylor.
“I can assure you that it’s not just the fans, the whole dressing room thinks that,” the German said when asked if he was aghast with the refereeing decisions. “I cannot understand how the first goal is not a foul or how a player can be pulled by the hair during a corner. I am curious what the explanation is. Both [Tottenham] goals should not stand.”
Tuchel, who was sent off at the end of the bad-tempered draw, suggested that the “whole (Chelsea) dressing room” had an issue with Taylor, adding: “I cannot coach but the referee can whistle the next game?”
However, the FA has opened an investigation into Thomas Tuchel’s post-match comments regarding referee Anthony Taylor.
Tuchel was sent off after the final whistle after gripping Antonio Conte’s hand, seemingly aggrieved that the Tottenham manager was not looking him in the eyes. The two then squared up, with Conte also shown a red card.
The two had previously clashed after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s second-half goal, with Tuchel feeling Kai Havertz was fouled in the build-up.
Asked if he had a problem with Taylor, Tuchel replied: “Today? Absolutely.”
“I can’t understand how the first goal is not offside and I can’t understand when a player is pulled by their hair, the other player stays on the pitch.
“Pull someone else’s hair, stay on the pitch and attack the last corner. This is for me without any explanation and I don’t want to accept it. Both goals should not stand and it’s a fair result because we were brilliant, deserved to win. This is my point of view.”
Tuchel could already face a touchline ban for the red card but may now face further action from the FA.
