Two men jailed 1 month for house-breaking

Date:

A Senior Magistrates’ court at Wuse, Abuja, has sentenced two men to one month in prison each for breaking into a civil servant’s house.

The men, Sadiq Ismail, 21, and Umar Sulaiman, 18, who both reside in Jabi, were arraigned on two counts of joint act and attempt to commit an offence of theft.

The magistrate, Mrs Grace Adebayo-Essien, sentenced the convicts after they pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court for leniency.

Adebayo-Essien refused to give the convicts an option to pay a fine.

“Even though you did not waste the court’s time by pleading guilty, you will still be punished.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Anigbo Paul, had told the court that Mr Ismaila Muhammed, who resides at Lugbe in Abuja, had lodged a report about the duo.

He said the report was lodged at the Lugbe Police Station on March 4.

“The two men criminally conspired and broke into Muhammed’s house in Lugbe with the intention to steal,’’ Paul said.

He said the accused persons confessed during investigation to using an iron cutter to cut the burglary proof.
