A UK-based education and development advocate, Marcel Ngogbehei, has officially launched a Community Scholarship Programme aimed at identifying and supporting outstanding students within the community, in a move designed to expand access to quality education and reward academic excellence.
Speaking at the official unveiling of the initiative, Ngogbehei, founder of the Ngogbehei Cancer Center, described the scholarship as a strategic investment in the future of young people, noting that while talent is widespread, opportunities for growth and advancement remain limited for many students.
The scholarship programme, he explained, is built on structured teaching, discipline and fair competition, with the goal of discovering academically gifted students and supporting them throughout their educational journey.
According to him, the initiative goes beyond examination success to focus on character development, confidence building and preparing students to contribute meaningfully to society.
“Education is more than passing exams. It shapes character and equips young people with the skills and mindset needed to become future leaders. By investing in our children today, we are securing the future of our community”, Ngogbehei said.
The Community Scholarship Programme is being implemented as an educational initiative of the Ngogbehei Cancer Center, reflecting the organisation’s broader commitment to human development, wellbeing and empowerment beyond healthcare delivery.
Ngogbehei noted that the centre’s involvement underscores the link between education, social development and long-term community wellbeing.
Parents, teachers, community leaders and students attended the launch, which was marked by calls for collective support to ensure the programme’s sustainability and impact.
Ngogbehei expressed appreciation to educators and parents for their roles in nurturing young minds and supporting the vision behind the scholarship.
He also charged students to approach the opportunity with discipline, dedication and self-belief, stressing that the scholarship is both a reward for excellence and a challenge to strive for higher academic and personal standards.
Education stakeholders at the event described the initiative as timely, particularly in communities where access to educational support remains a challenge.
They noted that the scholarship programme has the potential to motivate students, improve academic performance and encourage a culture of excellence.
As the programme takes off, organisers expressed optimism that it will continue to grow and touch more lives, contributing to the development of a new generation of confident, disciplined and socially responsible leaders.
