The Ummah Zakat Foundation (UZF), in collaboration with the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has launched the Eazy Zakat App and inaugurated its Board of Trustees to promote transparent, accountable, and technology-driven collection and distribution of Zakat across Nigeria.
The initiative was unveiled during a conference in Abuja, where stakeholders described the platform as a significant step towards strengthening Islamic social financing and improving the welfare of poor and vulnerable Nigerians.
Speaking at the event, the Global Director of the D-8 Health and Social Protection Programme, Dr. Ado Muhammad, said the Foundation was established to leverage innovative Islamic financing mechanisms, particularly Zakat, to enhance healthcare, livelihoods, and social protection.
He explained that the Foundation draws inspiration from successful Zakat administration models in D-8 member countries such as Malaysia, where organised Zakat systems have significantly contributed to poverty alleviation and sustainable development.
According to him, Nigeria can replicate such successes by combining technology, transparency, accountability, and strategic partnerships to unlock the full potential of Islamic social finance.
Delivering the keynote address, the President-General of the NSCIA and Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, represented by the Shehu Usman Chindo Yamusa III, described Zakat as one of Islam’s fundamental pillars and a powerful instrument for social justice, wealth redistribution, and community development.
The Sultan said the establishment of the Ummah Zakat Foundation comes at a crucial time, noting that the integration of Islamic principles with modern technology would improve service delivery while preserving the values of accountability, compassion, and fairness.
He said the Eazy Zakat web and mobile platform would enable Muslims to fulfil their religious obligation more conveniently and confidently, with assurances that contributions would reach verified beneficiaries through a transparent process.
The Sultan also charged the newly inaugurated Board of Trustees to uphold integrity, strong governance, proper record-keeping, Shariah compliance, and responsible stewardship in managing Zakat resources.
Accepting the appointment on behalf of the Board, Samaila Muhammad Mera, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, pledged to discharge the board’s responsibilities with diligence, accountability, and inclusiveness.
He assured the Muslim Ummah that the board would ensure effective implementation of the Foundation’s mandate to promote transparency and equitable distribution of Zakat resources while advancing the organisation’s vision of supporting the less privileged.
The Eazy Zakat App is the flagship digital platform of the Ummah Zakat Foundation, designed to modernise Zakat administration through a secure and transparent digital system. The platform connects Zakat donors directly with verified beneficiaries, ensuring timely distribution of funds while promoting financial inclusion, poverty reduction, and sustainable socio-economic development.
The Foundation expressed confidence that the adoption of digital technology would strengthen public trust, increase participation in Zakat giving, and maximise the impact of charitable contributions across communities in Nigeria.
