The University of Abuja, otherwise known as Yakubu Gowon University” that successfully graduated a total of 12,624 students across two academic sessions.
​​Speaking at the combined 29th and 30th convocation ceremonies held at the weekend at the University’s main campus, the Vice-Chancellor of UniAbuja
Prof. Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, disclosed that 7, 158 students graduated from the 2022/2023 set, comprising 48 First Class, 2, 048 Second Class Lower and 644 Third Class graduates respectively.
He further revealed that 5, 466 students graduated from the 2023/2024, which include: 29 First Class, 1, 395 Second Class Upper, 3, 091 Second Class Lower and 951 Third Class.
He however, announced that the University management has concluded arrangements to offer automatic employment to the best-graduating students.
He emphasized that this merit-based initiative aims to reward excellence and foster immediate career development
Prof. Fawehinmi lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his pivotal role in stabilizing the institution during recent periods of crisis.
​Highlighting recent milestones, the VC noted that several key projects have been completed, including a new Senate Chamber, an Administrative Building, and a state-of-the-art Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre.
​Addressing safety concerns, he assured the university community that a 24-hour surveillance system is now in place, involving a strategic partnership between civil security agencies and the military.
​The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Senator Dr. Olanrewaju Tejuoso, urged the new graduates to serve as worthy ambassadors.
He also called on the private sector to partner with the university, specifically citing the urgent need for modern student hostels.
​The event was graced by the Chancellor, HRH Alhaji Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu (Emir of Bauchi), and a representative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to the Nigerian education sector.
