UNICEF commends media partnership

UNICEF has lauded its partnership with the media in terms of sensitization, mobilization and enlightenment of the general public on its activities across the country.
The Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Specialist UNICEF Bauchi Office,
Drissa Yeo, stated at the two day training for journalists on ethical reporting on Child survival, development and protection that ended weekend, organized by Bauchi State Television (BATV) supported by UNICEF Nigeria Bauchi field office.
He said the training is timely considering the vital roles journalists are playing in making UNICEF program achieve results in issues that centers around women and children.
“We are grateful for your support in raising awareness on issues that concern children and women, you are doing a great job and as the new circle of UNICEF’s programs starts (2018 to 2022), we hope to see a more robust partnership that will lead to recording more success stories in the areas of women and children”.
In his remarks the Managing Director of BATV Alhaji Ibrahim Idris Shall, represented by the Director News and Program, Ibrahim Sani, said BATV have had a long standing partnership with UNICEF in all areas of development especially as it effects children and women.
He said “we partner with UNICEF in the areas of community mobilization, creating awareness and giving publicity that assist in mitigating challenges associated in making the lives of children and women more productive and healthy. We also partner to see to the elimination of Polio amongst children”.
Shall charged the participants “not to relent in reporting children and women issues and as journalists, you have a duty to uphold professional ethics in carrying out your duties”.
Also speaking the communication specialists UNICEF Bauchi field office, Mr Samuel Kaalu said the objective of the training was to enhance the knowledge of participants on ethical reportage on Children’s issues, to update participants knowledge on Journalism based on ethical principles, to dialogue on the current child survival , development and protection issues in states that are supported by UNICEF Nigeria Bauchi office and to also draw up a plan of action to put the issues of child survival on public discuss.
The Participants come from Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Taraba and Jigawa States.
