UNICEF distributes learning materials to 20,000 pupils in Adamawa

UNICEF has inaugurated the distribution of learning materials for 20,000 pupils in 119 schools in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa.
Mairama Dikwa, Education Specialist, UNICEF Bauchi field office, at the ceremony in Hong, said the materials were to improve equitable access and quality education outcomes at basic level.
She said the project was funded by the German Government and appealed to local governments and school heads to make equitable distribution to ensure that each child was provided with the learning materials.
“Today, 500 cartoons of school materials are brought to Hong to be distributed to 20,000 primary school learners in 119 schools in Hong local government as part of UNICEF 2020 school supplies,” she said.
She said UNICEF was committed to partnering with the Adamawa government to achieve the sustainable development Goals (SDGs) and education for all goals of educating all children at all levels.
She called on Adamawa government to redistribute teachers based on pupils’ enrollment and to recruit more qualified female teachers as well as provide furniture to schools.
Salihi Ateequ, Chairman Adamawa Universal Basic Education Board (ADSUBEB), who described the materials as special, assured of judicious use of the materials.
Mr Pukuma Jems, the Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, thanked UNICEF for the gesture and assured of equitable distribution.
He warned school heads against diversion of materials and promised to deal with any person found wanting.
