In its efforts to boost healthcare delivery to children and adolescents, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with Canadian government supported Yobe state with 720,000- liters capacity Oxygen Plant.
The multi Million Naira Oxygen Gas Plant facility was constructed at specialist Hospital in Damaturu, state capital.
The Organization’s Country representative, Mrs. Cristian Munduate, said that the gas facility would play a critical role in combating the child mortality rate in Yobe and other neighboring states.
She added that, Yobe is among the few states that benefited from these interventions from the development partners.
Munduate further assured that the gas plant would complement government efforts in ensuring universal health coverage, pointing out that it is a massive investment in the health sector.
She emphasized that UNICEF has trained technical personnel to operate the gas plant and maintenance of the facility to ensure value for money invested.
According to her, UNICEF has taken bold steps towards addressing the instances of child Mortality, neonatal, newborn and Malnutrition, among others.
The country representative reminds people of the state to give priority to child health and wellbeing, and also ensures every child is immunized against child killer diseases.
