Unilorin graduates 2 medical students with distinction

Two medical students of the University of Ilorin have graduated with distinction out of 105 graduates produced by the College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin.

According to the College, 53 out of the 105 graduants are male and 50 were female making the total of 3,884 medical doctors produced by the university since its inception in 1983.

Addressing the graduants during their professional initiation into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, Registrar of the Council, Dr. Abdulmumin Ibrahim, represented by Dr. Victor Gbenro, urged the newly inducted doctors to adhere to the ethics and rules of the medical association stressing that violation of any of its law could lead to withdrawal of license and sanction if found guilty.

The Council appealed to the doctors to always consider the clients’ health and survival and avoid blackmail and bully of their clients.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali who congratulated the graduates warned them against violation of the ethics of medical profession stressing that they should protect their profession and integrity.

The Guest Speaker and former member of House of Representatives, Dr. Wale Okediran, in his lecture titled “Serving three masters; the interplay between medicine, literature and politics” advised the doctors to read, involve in politics and work for patients not their pockets.

As Socrates once observed; “the greatest punishment for the wise who refuse to take part in politics is to suffer the rule of idiots.

“Read wisely and widely and if possible restrain yourself. It is said that you will remain as you are in five years except for two things; the people with whom you associate and the books you read”.
