Union thrills Abuja residents with cultural festival

Date:

The Abuja branch of Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has organized
a cultural festival in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), with thrilling display of diverse cultural heritage of the people of the area.
It was gathered that the annual event not only gives the people the opportunity to showcase their culture, but also an avenue for them to thank God for keeping them alive all through the year.
Speaking during the event, chairman of the union, Mr. David Dogo, stressed the importance to the promotion of peaceful coexistence among the people wherever that may be in the society.
“Here, we celebrate our culture. We also present it to the world. Southern Kaduna has a unique culture. If we don’t celebrate it, nobody will know it.
“We also use this opportunity to thank God for 2018. Even though it has not been easy, but our God has been faithful, so it is all thanksgiving all the way,” he said.
Dogo added that the event has always given the people a platform to interact with one another and most importantly to exchange ideas that would bring about development to their people in the FCT and back home in Kaduna.
He therefore called on the people to continue to live together in peace with one another.
Equally, while urging people to ensure that they voted in the coming elections, so as to bring in credible leaders who they feel would bring about progress and growth in the country.
Also speaking, the vice president of the union, Mr. Jeremiah Peter, opined that apart from meeting friends and relatives, the event is a platform for the people to help one another to grow, both emotionally and financially.
“We have benefitted a lot through this event, because we have used the time to know one another.
“Above all, this is a platform where we meet our brethren who have graduated and don’t have jobs and see how to help them become employed. Also, those who have business, we look for how to make their businesses grow,” he said.
The event witnessed a colorful arrays and extravagant display of the Southern Kaduna people with traditional dances and music.
