Unknown gunmen kill 10 in fresh Nasarawa attack

About ten people were feared killed and several homes were set ablaze yesterday in the early morning by unknown gun men on the community of Gidan Gambo, in Lafia East Development area of Nasarawa state.

The attackers were said to be armed with Ak 47 rifles who invaded the community during the morning rain around 4am by shooting sporadically which ten people were killed and houses were burnt down.

Peoples Daily gathered that the attack on Gidan Gambo is the latest in the serial attacks on communities carried out by unknown gun men in recent times since the skirmishes erupted.

A source at Gidan Gambo, Likita Alaku, who escaped from the attack, told our reporter  that the unknown gunmen, numbering over 300, were armed with AK-47 rifles stormed the village.

His words: “We woke up during heavy rainfall and saw unknown gunmen with AK-47 rifles, who surrounded the village and started shooting in all directions and burning houses’’.

Alaku, who decried the sophisticated weaponry in possession of the

invaders, called on both federal and state government as well as the security agencies to embark on pro-active measures to check the proliferation of illegal arms.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer,(PPRO) Nasarawa state Police Command, Umaru Isma’ila Numan, said that the Command got hint of the incident and swiftly deployed its men to curtail the ugly incident.
