Nigerian health professionals based in the US will be quarantined for 21 days after a return from a medical mission in Abia state, the team leader has said.
The 75-man team, which consisted of doctors, nurses and pharmacists, had left the US for Abia in Nigeria on a one week free medical services.
The health professionals have treated not less than 6,200 patients while about 74 free surgeries have been carried out by the group.
Leader of the health team, Dr. Christian Ike, had expressed dissatisfaction over the stigmatization of Nigerians in foreign countries, even when Nigeria has been internationally certified free of the deadly epidemic.
It will be recalled that barely two weeks ago, about 30 Nigerian students were humiliated and deported back to the country by the Sudanese government, when they were singled out, haven seized their passport, and were forced to pay not less than $500 dollars each for which to claim their passports all but after returning to Nigeria.
Briefing newsmen at Umahia, Dr. Christian Ike also said, that the team’s gesture was part of their contribution to nation building and to also support the Abia state government.
The Dr also disclosed that the team which was made of 24 doctors, 21 pharmacists and 30 nurses has also contributed about $420,000 to the course of the project.
