From Edwin Olofu, Kano
United States of America’s Ambassador to Nigeria, James F. Entwhistle, has commended Gov. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, of Kano state, for his youth and women empowerment initiative, describing it as encouraging.
Ambassador Entwhistle made the remark during the presentation of letters of appointment into the Kano state civil service to 1,000 youth at the Kano Government House lawn Wednesday.
He stated that when he was in the US, before becoming an ambassador, he used to assume that Nigeria’s most important resource was fuel, but that on arrival in the country, he came to realize that the most important resource is its young patriotic men and women.
The envoy, therefore, praised Kwankwaso for his human development strides stressing “I believe the ways to help youth is education and employment”.
Entwhistle congratulated the newly recruited workers and praised the state government for giving them the unique opportunity to be useful to themselves and to the larger society.
He also pledged his country’s support for Kano state government in its fight against HIV/AIDS, Polio and drug abuse.
Responding, Kwankwaso revealed that within the last three years the state government engaged 8,000 indigenes into its civil service as teachers, administrative personnel and corporate security guards among others, in order to revitalize the service.
