US Envoys meet PDP leaders in Edo over 2019 polls

Indications have emerged that the United States of America Consulate has begun an enquiry into the outcome of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria.
On Tuesday, two members of the United States Consulate from Lagos office, Nigeria, met with leaders of Peoples Democratic Party.
Vote-buying, alleged murder, military interference, compromise by some Staff of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the 2019 general elections, were part of the issues that were discussed at the meeting which was held at the residence of Chief Dan Orbih.
Others include alleged interference by sub-agencies of government and other Security agencies as well as human trafficking were discussed at the meeting which was held at the residence of Chief Dan Orbih in Benin City.
The guests alighted from a spot utility vehicle marked Presidency and and proceeded for the closed-door meeting which began about at 2: 45pm and ended 4pm.
The two Officials, Mr. Arnold Abumere, Political Adviser, and Shashank Iyer, political Officer, declined interview with newsmen.
But, Edo State Chairman of PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, who briefed newsmen at the end of the meeting, said the members of the Consulate promised to take their report to the appropriate quarters.
Orbih, said the group was in Edo State to seek ways to curb human trafficking in Edo State and issues bothering on the 2019 general elections.
“They are on a visit to Edo State to see what they can do to human trafficking in the State.
“We presented our position about the elections and they promised to take our report to the appropriate quarters.
“They also talked about politics and the recently held general elections”, he said.
Our Correspondent learnt that members of the US Consulate also held a similar meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Edo State Chapter on Tuesday.
