The Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, Bayero University Kano (BUK), will hold the fourth International Conference and Doctoral Colloquium (ICDC) at the university.
Scholars from United States of America, United Kingdom and some African countries are expected to grace the occasion and present papers that could encourage authorities towards addressing economic challenges in the world.
Speaking yesterday at a press conference to announce the commencement of the three-day conference, Professor Kabir Tahir Hamid,
Chairman, Organizing Committee, revealed that Peter Wallis, President, Wallis Energy Corporation, Massachusetts, USA would be a Keynote Presenter Speaker at the occasion.
He added that Mr. Daniel Wagner – CEO, Country Risk Solutions/Advisor, FOSSREA would present the lead paper at the event, scheduled to take place between 21st to 23rd January, 2025.
Prof. Mohammed Dahiru Madawaki– Director, University of Maiduguri Business School (UMBS) and Prof. Abdullahi Ahmed – University of Canterbury, UK would also present their papers, according to Prof. Hamid.
He also explained that Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State for Education would serve as Special Guest of Honour at the conference.
The Chairman noted that the conference would provide a platform for intellectual discourse on strategic management approaches for sustainable development amid economic uncertainties.
According to him, the event would address contemporary economic and financial challenges, exploring innovative solutions for resilience and stability.
“The conference would examine the role of risk management, governance reforms, and financial strategies in mitigating economic shocks, Highlight the impact of digital transformation, fintech, and sustainable finance in driving economic recovery and growth.
“It would also Identify actionable strategies for promoting entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, and ethical investment practices as catalysts for long-term economic sustainability,” he said.
Prof. Hamid said the conference, previously held three times, yielded positive results as the faculty was able to document the conferences’ proceedings and shard it with the likes of CBN and NDIC for policy formulation.
“This faculty has held three conferences prior to this, how far have they impacted ? The beauty of the conferences we held previously was that we were able to get participants from different walks of life, including participants from the academic and the industry, so much such that, when the conference proceedings were produced we were able to circulate to them.
“Copies were sent to CBN, NDIC and a number of relevant organizations so that they can be able to see the papers presented. They can be able to see the communique. And that has even givien us the courage to continue. And you can see, that is the reason why even the conference is becoming attractive.
“This is because scholars are happy that this conference is serving as a platform for cross-fertilization of ideas and we see effective solutions coming out.
“So we will not say that previous conferences have failed in resolving all the challenges, respecting to management and governance and maybe have greatly helped. They have greatly helped and that is the reason why you can see scholars coming from the United States of America coming from the United Kingdom, coming from different parts of the world.
“Why? Because they have seen the previous conferences and they feel that their coming this time around can also make impact so that they can also be able to contribute to the discussion.
“And through that we are confident that we can be able to come up with a very strong resolution, very strong communique at the end of the day that will help us at least to reduce the challenges of the situation we are in in the country and to help us achieve a sustainable development development that is not only looking at the economic angle, but also looking at the human, as well as the environmental and this is the three pillars of development,” Prof. Hamid explained.
He said the conference, to be holding at 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily, at thebFaculty of Economics and Management Sciences Theatre, CBN Centre of Excellence, Bayero University Kano, is opened to all interested persons or groups.
