Video: Abductors did not ask for N1bn ransom, Sharia – Victim
A principal among the abducted pupils and teachers from three schools attacked in Oriire Local Government Area (LGA) of Oyo State has appeared in a new video, dismissing reports that the kidnappers are demanding N1 billion ransom, weapons, or the implementation of Sharia law.
The principal, identified as Mrs Alamu, said the abductees had spent 24 days in captivity and urged the public to avoid circulating unverified information that could complicate efforts to secure their release.
Exact demands from abductors
In the video reportedly released by the abductors, she said the captors showed the victims copies of online reports detailing alleged demands attributed to them, which she described as false and misleading.
Mrs Alamu insisted that the widely circulated claims about N1 billion ransom, weapons supply, and Sharia law were not true.
According to her, the abductors’ only request was the release of certain individuals and further negotiation to resolve the situation.
Appeal against misinformation
The principal cautioned the public, media, and authorities against spreading unverified reports, warning that misinformation could affect ongoing efforts to secure the release of the captives.
“Hello, everyone. I have come to make some clarifications. Today makes it the 24th day we have been in this place, and it seems that some people are making our case complicated already,” she said.
She added that the situation of the abductees was already difficult and should not be worsened by inaccurate reports circulating online.
Victims’ ordeal in captivity
The emergence of the video comes amid growing concern over the fate of about 45 pupils and teachers abducted when armed men stormed three schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The victims have now spent over three weeks in captivity, raising anxiety among families and community members who continue to await updates from security agencies.
Conflicting reports over demands
The principal’s statement contradicts earlier reports suggesting that the abductors were demanding a large ransom, weapons, and political or religious concessions.
Her remarks have added a new layer of uncertainty to public understanding of the situation and the ongoing negotiation process.
Ongoing rescue efforts
Authorities in Oyo State have yet to issue a fresh official response following the circulation of the video. However, earlier statements indicated that security agencies were actively working to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers.
Security experts note that conflicting narratives often emerge in kidnapping cases, particularly when negotiations are ongoing, and can complicate both public perception and operational efforts.
