VIO rakes in N2.2bn in 11 months

Date:

The Federal Capital Territory’s Directorate of Road Transport Services (FCT-DRTS) otherwise known as Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), says it rakes in a total sum of N2, 210,257,119.54 between January and November, this year, even its vows to ensure traffic offenders in the nation’s capital territory are duly prosecuted.

Also, a total of 3590 motorcycles, 855 tricycles, and 1,050 vehicles were impounded during the same period.

According to the Assistant Director Operations, DRTS, Wadata Bodings, who made this disclosure while responding to questions from newsmen, during a recent press briefing, said the sum was summary of the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR) by Directorate into the coffers of the FCT administration, within the said period.

His words: “So far, the sum of N2, 210, 257, 119.54 was what was actually generated from January to November (2014), this is the summary of the Internal Generated Revenue (IGR).”

Meanwhile, commenting on efforts by the FCT administration to boost public transport system, its Transport Secretary, Jonathan Ivoke, noted that the Abuja Light Rail project and the high capacity buses provided by the administration will go a long way in addressing the challenges of Abuja commuters.

He reinstated the commitment of the FCT administration to reintroduce ‘Park and Pay System’, so as to ensure sanity in the way vehicles are parked in the Abuja city centre.

“This present administration has done so much to make available a decent means of transportation; however, influx of people into the city makes the system grossly inadequate,” Ivoke explained.
