From Mustapha Adamu, Kano

Over 300 INEC Adhoc staff in the early hours of Saturday at Dorayi Karama polling station, Gwale Local Government area of Kano state protested over non payment of their training allowance.

The protesting adhoc staff were said to have abandoned the election materials and insisted that they must be paid their allowances before they proceed to polling stations for voting.

It was gathered that the affected staff alleged that they had not been paid their N4,000 training staff while their colleagues in other centers were already paid

They therefore vowed not to leave the center until their training allowance of N4,000 was paid to each of them.

However, it was with the prompt intervention of the Electoral Officer, EO, that saved the situation after he addressed the aggrieved adhoc staff.

The EO assured them that their money would be paid to them in cash at their respective polling stations.

A source at the area who spoke on condition of anonymity told our reporter that the affected adhoc staff had since collected the election materials and moved to their respective polling stations and voting had commenced.

However, as of 5pm, the source , when contacted again, said they had not been given the allowance.
