A Nigerian students’ movement has thrown its weight behind the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), praising the agency’s open door approach in the fight against corruption and cybercrime.

The Progressive Students Movement (PSM), Nigeria chapter, commended EFCC chairman Ola Olukoyede and his management team for what it described as unprecedented results achieved under his leadership.

In a statement signed by its president, Comrade Ambassador Bestman Okereafor, the group said the fight against cybercrime and other social vices required a collective responsibility, given the international image of the country.

Okereafor, a former national PRO of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), lauded the EFCC for promptly releasing innocent persons arrested in Ogun State.

He also welcomed the repatriation of 51 foreign nationals jailed for cybercrime and internet fraud, describing the move as a step towards safeguarding Nigeria’s global reputation.

PSM, however, stressed that the EFCC could not win the fight alone, urging more partnerships, sensitisation campaigns and awareness programmes across the country. This was disclosed shortly after meeting the EFCC chairman in Abuja

The group also called on the commission to uphold professionalism and adhere to international best practices in carrying out its constitutional duties.
