A Veteran of the Nigeria Civil War, Col. Paul Ogbebor (Rtd) has sued for sustained investment to check the rising unemployment level in the country.
He predicted that corruption will kill Nigeria except concerted steps are taken to tackle the menace which he claimed account for extreme poverty and hunger in the nation.
Ogbebor made this remark when the Nigeria Institute for Character Education (NICE) conferred a honorary membership award on him yesterday in Benin City, Edo State.
He challenged the elites and leaders to re-orientate the minds of the younger generation to understand the essence of life, stressing that “if you have everything in life and lack character, you are nothing”.
“India once had a similar problem we have today and through a delegate effort in technology, they were able to come out of the economic morass. What we need is sustained investment in technology that would help to create jobs.
“It looks as if a new style of life has been established in this Country which is corruption and if we do not kill it, it will kill us,” he said.
The Chairman of Nigeria Institute for Character Education (NICE), Chief Edddy Ikponmwen, said the organization is helping to built capacity in selected public Secondary students in the State who have demonstrated exemplary character..
He revealed that plans were underway for the Non-Governmental Organization to incorporate private schools students into the scheme and check hunger based on the availability of resources.
