In order to protect water facilities from vandalism, the Nasarawa State Water Board has put in place modalities to foster collaboration with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), so as to tackle the menace across the state, in the interest of improved water supply.
The General manager of the Board, Kana Ahmad Abubakar, who made the assertion in an interview with Peoples daily in Lafia, the state capital, declared that the era of vandalization of water equipment by bad elements in the state shall soon be over.
He added that the Board has put in place strategy to protect water reservoirs from Hydro terrorism as well as monitoring of water chemicals across the facilities in the state.
He therefore warned against those behind such negative tendencies aimed at sabotaging government’s effort toward improving the water sector in state to henceforth desist or face the wrath of the Law.
According to him, there is a proposed Law by the immediate past Attorney General of the state Abdelkarim Kana, which spelt out that if anyone caught with water Board pipe or cable shall be arrested and prosecuted by the NSCDC.
He however appealed to residents of the state to support the administration of Governor Sule to succeed, as he accords premium to improving water sector for the benefit of all.
The GM further stressed that the Board is set to expand water projects across the state, in order to meet up with the increasing population, appealed to the state government for assistance, in order to embark on the expansion of water projects, even as he applauded the state governor for his immense support extended to the Board.
