We are under siege by bandits, Emir of Zazzau cries out

Date:

From: Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

The Emir of Zazzau Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli has expressed serious concern over the unabated attacks  unleashed by bandits in the Emirate, and urgently appealed for security interventions.

The Emir made the call while hosting a delegation of the Heads of Security Agencies serving in the state at his palace yesterday.

Bamalli called for more deployment of troops to enhance maximum security of lives and property of citizens in the area and kaduna state as a whole.

According to him, the increasing rate of banditry activities in the Emirate and the state in general is becoming so alarming with gunmen striking the ancient city of Zaria, almost on daily basis in the last two weeks.

He affirmed that the city is not safe despite the location of military formations and training schools in the emirate, describing it as unacceptable.

Emir Bamalli said, it is disheartening that a hospital can be raised and a Medical Doctor kidnapped while a District Head who is a leader can be subjected to attacks and his family kidnapped.

“You are also aware that a student was shot to death while two lecturers and about 10 students were kidnapped at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria, all within a week.

He said deployment of troops became highly imperative considering the strategic importance of Zaria which serves as a centre of learning and a gateway to people in the North West.

He however appreciated the efforts of both Federal and Kaduna state governments in fighting  the menace but called for more stringent measures to safe guard the lives of the people.

“With all the number of Military, Airforce and Police formation in the state, it is worrisome that such level of insecurity could persist”.

Earlier, the commissioner said the delegation was at the palace for a confidence-building visit and to commiserate with the emirate over the incident at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic and neighboring communities where a student was killed, two academic staff and six students were abducted.
