We must fight drug abuse in Nigeria –Saraki insists

The President of the Senate, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has vowed to fight drug abuse in Nigeria.
He said Nigerian authorities would not fold arms to watch the illicit practice thriving in the country.
Saraki, at a Senate Roundtable on Drug Abuse Epidemic in Nigeria, held at Bristol Hotel in Kano State, yesterday, said drug abuse and trafficking had taken its toll in Nigeria, adding that the National Assembly would not condone the illicit acts in a bid to sustain the peaceful coexistence of the country.
He expressed concern on the report of open market of drugs being operated at Sabon Gari market, Kano State, calling on security agencies and other authorities concerned to swing into action to tackle the problem at the market.
He also vowed to follow up the operations on the Sabon Gari Market to its logical conclusion.
“We will not afford to live a lawless society. We will not shrug to be watching dug abuse and trafficking holding sway in our country.
“We will try much to decimate the practice. I promise I will be following the Sabon Gari market case until it is wiped out. This is not acceptable, “ he said
The Senate President also said the upper chamber would look into how more rehabilitation centers in Nigeria would be set up,as requested by a participant at the programme.
He also vowed to pursue and chase the persons involved in drug trafficking, stressing that “whoever is found wanting, from wherever he is from, must be dealt with accordingly without fear or favour. Enough is enough.”
Saraki further called on parents to be vigilant in raising their children.
