The Surveyor General of the Federation, Surv. Abdulganiyu A. Adebomehin has stressed the need for Nigerians to have first-hand information of their nation through the Geographic Information System.
Surv. Adebomehin who made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting on the observing of Geographic Information System (GIS) Day noted that it was not healthy for Nigeria to leave its critical information management to foreigners.
He frowned on the way people rely on foreign information systems to get data for analysis, surveying and making informed decisions that affect the nation and its people.
Continuing, Adebomehin informed the event would take place between 14 and 15 November saying it would be remarkable and in the interest Nigerians.
He noted the event would enable Nigerians to know the importance of GIS in planning, surveying and organization.
He however, urged the organizers and partners as well to be ready to put everything in proper perspective as Nigerians would like to witness robust occasion.
Speaking further, Surv. Adebomehin stressing the importance of GIS stated that it reveals everything about the information system of a setting environment and would be a replica of google.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Jamitan Tech. Nig Limited, Mr. Olawanle Akintan who was the organizer of the event said it was a privilege to partner with Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGoF) to commemorate the day as it would make Nigerians realize the importance of GIS and how to apply it for development
