From: Femi Oyelola, Kaduna

The Chairman of the Retired Police Officers, Kaduna State Chapter Rtd CSP, Mannir Lawal Zaria, said the Nigerian Police retirees under the scheme are dying in silence.
He made the statement after leading members of the Association of Retired Police Officers Kaduna State Chapter, for a peaceful protest at the National Assembly Abuja, to plead with the Senate and the House of Representatives to pass the police pension bill just like the military and other security agencies.
Mr Lawal said that the 9th National Assembly had passed the police pension bill in June this year to exit the Nigeria Police from the contributory pension scheme and establishment of the Police Pension Board but President Muhammadu Buhari did not approve it before leaving office.
He revealed that the living condition of their members is deteriorating and they die daily of simple causes.
“If you look at our number here, we are very few because many of us have died already. Those alive are semi-paralyzed because of poverty; ordinary malaria, they cannot treat. What type of country is this; where are we heading to?
The chairman revealed that PENCOM has refused to release their share of the 2.5 percent salary increment as approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
