A former Commissioner for Information in Ondo State and erstwhile Vice National Chairman (South West) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Eddy Olafeso, who was among the thirty-nine newly inaugurated members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, has expressed the optimism that the glorious past of the party will be brought back.
Chief Olafeso said this in Abuja while answering questions from Journalists on Monday shortly after the inauguration of the new members of the BoT of the PDP.
He maintained that the PDP will soon return to greater heights, saying, “You can trust us”.
Olafeso, who resigned from his position as Vice National Chairman (South-West) of the PDP while vying for the party’s governorship ticket for Ondo state last year, made it pointedly clear that discipline and commitment are part of democracy.
He posted that the PDP can, henceforth, continue to perform its duty as an opposition party across the country.
Asked how he felt after being inaugurated as a member of the BoT of the PDP, Olafeso said, “Excited and we thank God Almighty that we have gotten this far and that it’s a new beginning for our party, a regeneration of the glorious past and doing everything possible to ensure that from this moment on, the PDP can continue to perform its duty as an opposition party across the country.
“New ideas, new people, new orientation. With the quality of leadership and the heritage of the past, we can make Nigeria better than it is today.
“Yes, it’s an excitement for all of us to go back home and work and that’s exactly what we are going to do.
“Some of us are known for standing our ground for the last 20 something years for PDP. We will not depart from that path.
“We will begin to bring the glorious past back to our people where you can send your children to school, where insecurity will be a thing of the past and the economy and employment will begin to recede.
“This too shall pass and you can see that it’s passing here. You are living witness to all the governors that we had issues with returning to be members of BOT. It speaks volumes.
“That’s the sign of the moment. We are going to return to greater heights. You can trust us”, he said.
