From Mustapha Adamu, Kano
The Nigerian Army in Kano has reassured the citizens of the state of its continuous security and protection of lives and property for continued flourish of commercial activities in the state.
The Brigade Commander, 3 Brigade Headquarters, Kano, Brigadier-General Jamiu Olayinka Are, gave the assurance while receiving members of the Kano Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who paid him a courtesy call on Wednesday.
Mr Are noted that Kano is the commercial nerve centre of the north, adding that it is sacrosanct to secure the second most populous state for business activities to continue booming.
According to the Brigade Commander, any attempt to compromise the security of Kano would adversely affect the economy of the Northern region in particular and the country at large.
He further said that they operate a joint taskforce with sister security agencies to ensure that security of lives and property is protected in the state.
However, he said that the state is sharing boarders with states that are facing security challenges but have taken the necessary measures to ensure that it does not infiltrate into the state.
“Kano is central to all activities of the northern part of the country and is the commercial nerve centre of the region. Whatever happens in Kano has effect on other parts of the North.
“So we don’t want anything to happen to Kano so that is why relatively the state is peaceful.
“This is possible because of so many factors that include the synergy amongst all the security agencies. Be rest assured that all of us that are involved as security agencies are working in synergy to secure the state and its border towns,” he explained.
