Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has said his people are not fighting any ethnic war but seeking for justice.
The Governor who said this yesterday in Makurdi while handling over Staff of Office to first class chiefs in the State, reiterated his call for the herdsmen in whatever guise to allow the people live their normal life.
He also urged the people to remain law abiding and restrain from reprisals no matter the provocation.
Ortom said the installation and coronation of the ten (10) first class chiefs is a watershed in the effort of government to give the traditional institution a pride of place.
He further explained that the administration thought it fit to review the traditional law in the State through executive bill to create chiefdoms and define the role of traditional rulership in the state.
According to him, the choice of the first class chiefs was done on merit and through a transparent process, urging them to uphold the rule of law as their watchword
“I advise you to engender peace in your domain. You should work in harmony and consultation with the paramount ruler and chairman of Benue Council of Traditional Chief the Tor TivOchivirgh James Ayatse”, Ortom advised.
He announced upward review of remuneration of traditional chiefs, assuring them of government support to meet their desired objective.
