We’re ready to empower, offer scholarship to 222 repentant thugs -Kano governor

The governor of Kano state, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has said that the state government has already planned for empowerment and scholarship to 222 repentant thugs in the state.
The governor disclosed this during a hangout event with the repentant thugs, held at Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium in Kano yesterday.
According to the governor, already, the government had made plans for their empowerment through skills acquisition and education.
He added that those that are willing to further their education would enjoy scholarship and sponsorship from the state government, adding that others who want to acquire skills or go into other legitimate businesses would also receive the full support of the state government.
“I most sincerely commend the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel for making this feat possible.
“The Kano Police Command has organized the training and passing out parade for these repentant thugs and out of those that are trained there are 50 constabulary volunteers who were selected from the crime prone local government areas of Fagge, Gwale, Dala, Dala, Nassarawa, Ungogo and Kano Municipal.
“ While 152 opted for skills acquisition in various trde to which the Kano State Government is committed to support them financially, while those who opted to go back to school to continue with their studies would be readmitted accordingly.
“I am also sincerely grateful to the Director-General of Special Services of the State, AVM Ibrahim Umar (rtd), for using his wealth of experience in harnessing and coordinating the smooth operation of security agencies in the state,” the governor said.
In his remarks earlier, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel said the Command had resolved to take non- kinetic approach to fighting criminality in the state.
