WHARC gets campaign team on leadership

The Women’s Heath and Action Research Centre (WHARC), has inaugurated a campaign team for youth leadership, with a charge to initiate policies that would help to fight social injustices in high places.

Programme Officer with Forth Foundation, Professor Paul Nwulu gave the charge during the inauguration of WHARC Youths Forum and presentation of prizes to winners of an essay competition, urged government at all levels to focus on the problems facing youths in the country.

Nwulu, a Professor of communications, identified youths as drivers of creativity including sports, health and music, yet, Nigerian youths have been left behind in area of leadership.

In a remark, Executive Director WHARC, Professor Cyril Mokwenye, urged youths to be focus and lead campaign against the scourge of corruption, insecurity and intractable problems facing the society.

Speaking on the topic on the challenges Nigerian youths face, Mokwenye admonished youths to build a pool of intellects by “using the forum as a launch-pad to effect positive change at schools, organisations and social gatherings’’.

The state commissioner for Health, Dr. (Mrs.) Aihanuwa Eregie, represented by a staff in the Ministry, Mrs. Serah Ojo-Edokpayi, emphasised on proper parenting skills needed.

In their goodwill messages, Chairman of WHARC Youths Forum (WYC) Dr. Wole Daini and executive Director youths empowerment and development centre(YEDEC), Christian Aisiri said lack of platform for youths to express themselves place serious burden on self-realisation of set goals.

Master Innocent Anazia and Miss Joy Obiote both students of University of Benin, Benin City, emerged as winners of N50, 000.00 each in the on-line competition, titled: “How to prevent the incidence of rape’’, which was opened to youths between the age range of 15 and 30 years.

The ceremony also featured the launching of WHARC Youth Application called ‘‘Repro-Health’’, aimed at providing questions and answers on sexual reproductive health for youths.

The application is available on Android phones users and it can be accessed on www.wharc/online.com, Facebook, e-mail, and Google play. It has been programmed for chatting with a specialist on sexual reproductive health (SRH) field, especially when answers are unsatisfactory.
