Why I refused to make promises during 2015 campaigns – Niger Gov

Date:

From Yakubu Mustapha, Minna

The Niger state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has explained that he refused to make promises of projects and services to Nigerlites during his campaign in 2015 due to the level of decays, deficiencies and wide gaps between the government and the citizens.
Governor Bello made the clarification yesterday at Government House in Minna, in his maiden parley/interactive session with media practitioners after three years in office, where he disclosed that he will re-contest and will win again come 2019 general elections.
He added that the people were disenchanted with the then ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to their misrule, impunity and maladministration, hence the victory for the current All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state, noting that they would have faced much problems if he had made promises to the people.
Bello hinted that the expectations of the electorates were very high hence the change mantra that was the APC slogan was basically for attitudinal change in the ways of running government, just as the need for accountability, prudent management of resources, blocking of linkages, reduce spending on unnecessary things.
He emphasized that he inherited a very decayed infrastructure ranging from roads, hospitals, educational facilities, water facilities, abandoned electrification projects, abandoned white elephant projects that has no value for Nigerlites, hence the need to prioritize due to lack of required funds, coupled with the recession immediately APC assumed office in 2015 which he said was a huge challenge to the state.
