Why Nigeria must return its National Carrier, by FAAN MD

Date:

FAAN-logoThe Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, Engr. Dunoma Saleh has said the re-establishment of a national carrier will greatly improve the country’s revenue from the aviation

sector and make Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos a hub in Africa.

Engr. Dunoma said the developing the industry will be an herculean task for the country without a national carrier just like Ethiopia, Kenya, Egypt and even South Africa, who has invested heavily to make

their country’s carrier ones to reckon with.

Speaking on how Nigeria can develop the aviation industry, He said, “This is a tall order and can only be achieved through a national carrier, which we don’t have here. Development will be very difficult for us without a national carrier, which is key, but we as an agency are trying to provide infrastructure in our airports.”

He explained that the budget was over-estimated as the management thought it would be able to achieve all its set goals in the past year but affirmed that the 2014 budget was a realistic one, which the

management was already in line to achieve.

He insisted that the aerotropolis concept developed by the former Minister of Aviation, Princes Stella Oduah is still ongoing despite some initial challenges.

The FAAN MD also disclosed that the agency had secured a land for that purpose in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT and Port Harcourt, Enugu and Kano while it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, with the Minister of FCT.
