Why we disengaged 7 expatriate Egyptian doctors – Yobe Govt.

Yobe state government said it has appraised the performance of expatriate doctors from Egypt and found them wanting in terms of fulfilling the contract agreement on service delivery and consequently disengaged them.
The state Commissioner for Health Dr. Bello Kawuwa, disclosed this yesterday in his office in Damaturu, while fielding questions from journalists on the activities and achievements of the ministry within the last fiscal year, 2017.
He pointed out that one of the contract agreement was that these doctors should be coming on probation for six months within which, if the performance of any of them fails below a given criteria, he would be relieved of his job because the desire of the state government is to ensure that quality health services are rendered to people in the state.
“To ensure that people in Yobe are protected, Yobe ministry of health with representatives of the state university teaching hospital, the health management board, civil service commission and the office of the head of service met, we looked at the conditions to be given as appropriate for this engagement, and agreed that they will be coming on probation for six months,” the commissioner said.
He disclosed that after the first six months, the probation proved that three of the doctors do not have the basic knowledge and skill and so their engagement was terminated, while at the last half yearly appraisal, done between the end of October and early November, 2017, another four of these doctors were found to have not continued to maintain the quality of care, dedication, commitment as well as professional competence and thus they were disengaged also from service.
He stated that Yobe state government would not continue to spend its hard-earned money that belongs to the people of the state, for services that would not give value for money spent and the desired dividend of democracy to the people.
