The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said that the N4, 000 charges on prospective corps members, would cover all information about corps member’s service records during and after service as well as getting information about the scheme in their lifetime.
Making this known to newsmen at the weekend in Abuja, following the criticisms of the N4, 000 online charges payable by all prospective corps members, Director of Mobilisation, Mr. Anthony Ani, said the amount was only meant for prospective corps member’s to register online at their prime time, avoid risk of moving from one place to another, print call-up letters, free camp register without queuing, avoid fake corps members, ensuring corps members are from the right schools accredited by National University Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and also passed through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Ani, who further said that the Public-Private-Partnership (PPP), On-line Registration project would serve the corps members for life, said the computerisation of the registration of call up letters by corps members would also enable the NYSC to create a IT-database for all those who served, to have access to information about corps members, organisations, institutions and agencies that may want to make enquiries about participants in the Scheme.
He explained further that the project, was put at a cost of N835 million as at 2012 when the proposal on submission of bids for it was called and for, which the Bureau of Public Procurement’s (BPP)’s, Certificate of ‘No Objection’ was obtained.
The director stated further that the project would also help the management to solve the challenges of manual documentation of the Scheme, particularly those associated with tracing files of corps members that had participated in the compulsory scheme over the past 41 years.
“Even when some sections of the public believed the charges was too much, the facts remain that the benefits of the innovative registration and documentation identity platform is still optional for corps members.
“If you do not want to enjoy the benefits the platform will give, you don’t need to pay”, the director of mobilization explained.
