Wike assures total transformation of Abuja by end of Tinubu’s 1st term

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that the landscape of Abuja will be completely transformed before the end of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s first term in office.

Wike gave the assurance on Tuesday, during the official flag-off of the Southern Parkway service carriageways construction in the Gaduwa District. The project was flagged off by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

Addressing concerns that the administration might slow down infrastructure development as the 2027 general elections approach, Wike dismissed the fears, insisting that development would continue unabated.

“Let me say clearly, by the time Mr. President finishes his first tenure on May 29, 2027, before he is sworn in as President for a second tenure, the landscape of Abuja would have entirely changed.

“Elections or no elections, we must continue to do that which Mr. President has directed,” Wike stated.

The Minister disclosed that the project contractor, CGC Nigeria Limited, has committed to working day and night to deliver the road before the January 2027 elections, provided the FCT Administration fulfills its financial obligations.

Wike promised that the government would not fail in its payments.
In tandem with the infrastructure push, Wike vowed to intensify crackdowns on land grabbers and illegal developers threatening the Abuja Master Plan.

To this end, he directed the Development Control and Lands departments to immediately identify and demolish all illegal structures along the project corridor.

Wike warned that: “all these land grabbers who have started developing lands that were not allocated to them should know that those structures will go down.

“Heaven will not fall. Heaven will be at peace when things are done properly.”

The Southern Parkway project is designed to improve connectivity within Abuja’s Southern Development Corridor, ease traffic congestion, and boost the expansion of residential and commercial districts.
