Wike commences upgrade of roads in Ushafa

In furtherance to bridging the infrastructural deficit in the six Abuja Area Councils, the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, yesterday flagged-off upgrading of War College/Army check point and other ancillary road connecting Ushafa community, Bwari Area Council of the Territory.
Wike said the strategic upgrade of the roads, reflects his administration’s dedication to bringing infrastructure and social development to both urban and rural communities within Abuja.
He noted that the six Area Councils have benefited more in terms of awards of projects since he became minister.
Reacting to those accusing his administration of neglecting area councils in terms critical infrastructural provision, Wike said they were too blind to see the over 15 legacy projects going on simultaneously across the six area Councils, with some of them due to be unveiled in December.
He however, assured other communities, who are yet to benefit from the Renewed hope agenda projects of the current administration to remain patient as the administration is just beginning.
The minister, also declared his support for the autonomy of local government inorder to empower them towards delivering developmental projects to the grassroots.
Earlier, the Coordinator, Satellite Towns Development Department (STDD), Zulkiflu Abdulkadir, who provided an overview of the project, noted that the contract was awarded on 28” September, 2024 to Messrs. Abdul Val Limited, and is expected to be completed within eighteen (18) months.
He said: “The scope of the project is as follows: upgrading of roads, site clearance and earthworks, 150mm thick lateritic sub – base, 150mm thick crushed stone base, 60mm thick asphaltic binder course, 40mm thick asphaltic wearing course, construction of box and pipe culverts of different sizes,construction of trapezoidal concrete lined drain, construction of access slabs and culverts; and installation of solar street light.”
He explained that the project is now part of road projects the minister flagged off in the Area Councils under STDD, since he took over the affairs of the FCT Administration.
He adds: “The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is highly desirous to open up the Rural Communities, this is in line with the
Renew Hope Agenda of Mr. President and the FCT Administration to provide enabling environment and improve the living condition of the inhabitants of Satellite Towns/Area Councils.”
