Wike Criticises Fubara Over Delay in Budget Submission, Second Term Ambition

Date:

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has criticised his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, over the alleged delay in presenting the 2026 budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Wike, who spoke on Wednesday during a media briefing at his residence in Abuja, accused the governor of prioritising political ambitions over governance.

“The governor is yet to submit his budget to the House of Assembly, but he is busy pursuing his second term ambition,” Wike said.

The FCT minister expressed concern over what he described as misplaced priorities, noting that the failure to present the appropriation bill could disrupt government operations and hinder the delivery of essential services in Rivers State.

He urged the governor to focus on his constitutional responsibilities, particularly the timely submission of the state budget to ensure smooth governance.

The latest remarks underscore the deepening political rift between Wike and Fubara, who were once allies.

Their relationship has remained strained since Fubara assumed office in 2023, resulting in ongoing public disagreements and shifting political alignments in Rivers State.
