In furtherance of the ongoing provision of road infrastructure across Abuja, Minister of FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, yesterday flagged off a 3 kilometer access road in Giri District of the nation’s capital.
Performing the official flag-off , Wike noted that the essence of th noe road project open up various areas within the District for people to build houses, as well as farmers to bring their produce to the city.
He assured that the contractor handling the project that funds are made available for its successful execution, adding the has approved their mobilization to site.
According to him, every FCT projects were properly captured in the 2024 budget, hence issue of funding would never a problem.
“The community will benefit, people will now come and build houses, farmers will bring their produce to the city. That’s the whole essence of opening up everywhere.
“A lot of people are talking about EFCC, making it as if we are doing the road for EFCC. It just happened that they are going to be one of the beneficiaries, for the fact that their academy is also located in this area.
“We are not building road for EFCC. We are building road to open up access and develop areas and of course they are one of the beneficiaries. I’m sure some of you own plots here too will also benefit from this road.
“You can imagine that this District, people have not come in here because there is no access road but with the access road here, everybody will come and develop, that’s what we are looking for so that we will decongest the city.
“People are living here, you don’t need to go to the city and then if you go from here to work within 20 minutes you’re already at your workplace.
“So, we thank Mr. President for giving us this opportunity to contribute towards the infrastructural development of FCT.
“So, we will make sure that you utilize the dry season and see that this job is completed. And again try as much as you can to relate with the host community, especially the Giri people here, that their people are employed; that people are also getting some kind of contract for supplies, so that they’ll be able to also feed their families.
“We believe in you. We have seen the work you’ve done in other areas. We believe that this will not be different.
“So, we thank Mr. President for providing the much needed funds, for giving us the free hand to do what we are doing and that’s why today everybody is talking about the infrastructural revolution taking place in Abuja. If we didn’t get the support of Mr. President, it would have been very difficult”, he stated.
Earlier, Acting Executive Secretary, Richard Dauda, who disclosed that the project, which is a 7 metres carriage road from the Bill Clinton axis of the Airport Road to the new EFCC permanent site in Giri District, has 9 months completion period.
