The FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike has warned management of the FCT Scholarship Board to always ensure prompt and orderly disbursement of scholarship funds to qualified beneficiaries without any form of segregation or bias.
Wike particularly noted that there should be no favoritism, tribalism and/or beneficence in the handling of the scheme.
He handed down this warning when when he flagged-off scholarship scheme for the 2022/2023 award session to the indigenous and indigents students of the FCT studying in Nigeria and foreign institutions.
Flagging off the exercise, at the Government Secondary School, Zone 3, Wuse I District, Abuja, on Wednesday, the Minister, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Chidi Amadi, noted that the exercise is part of the ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ of Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He reiterated that the FCT Administration will not relent on prioritising the education sub-sector, so as to enable it meet with the global standard.
Earlier in his remarks, the Mandate Secretary for FCT Education Secretary, Dr. Danlami Hayyo, had revealed that the FCT Minister gave an approval for over N24 Billion to the Secretariat to work towards the elevation of the standard of education that can effectively compete with others internationally.
Hayyo added that the Minister had earlier approved the sum of N300,000,000 as a budget for the 2022/2023 scholarship award to the indigenous and indigents students of the FCT studying in Nigeria and abroad.
On her part, the Director and Secretary of the FCT Scholarship Board, Mrs. Hannah David, promised that the Board will continue to discharge its primary responsibility of providing the educational assistance to the indigenous and indigents pupils and students of FCT across all levels of learning in the country and beyond.
She explained that in line with its mission and mandate, the Board since inception in 2010, supported the education of over 115,000 FCT indigenous and indigents pupils and students; some of whom are now working in various fields of human endeavours.
