Windstorm renders 350 persons homeless in Katsina

Katsina state house of assembly committee on environment and emergency relief has disclosed that a ferocious windstorm over the weekend in Katsina rendered no fewer than 350 persons homeless in two local governments of the state.

Presenting the committee’s findings to the state assembly, its chairman, Alhaji Babangida Muhammad Gafai noted that the affected local governments include Bakori and Musawa local governments.

In Bakori he disclosed the affected areas include, Sabuwar Unguwa Bayan gidan waya, Sabuwar Abuja, Karin Kudu, Gidan Alhaji Dammai, Kabomon Gada and Kurami ward.

However in Musawa Local Government, the affected areas include, Garu,Unguwar Soda, Kunturya, Tsuntsaye, Garun Sanyina, Tuge, Kira, Jikamshi and Dangani adding that the committee uncovered that all settlements in the two local government areas were prone to windstorm devastation.

The committee observed that women and children were injured during the disaster while electric poles were not spared by the windstorm.

The committee therefore, called on the Executive arm in the state to quickly direct the state emergency agency to move in and support the victims, calling for a special release to the affected local governments to enable them tackle the disaster.
