Woman poisons 11 months old own baby to death in Benue

A young woman Sughshater Ushahemba at the weekend reportedly poisoned her 11 months old baby girl to death in Mbadyur council ward, Logo local government area of Benue State.
She was caught while attempting to bury the child the next day.
The Police has confirmed the incident which occured on Saturday November 11, 2023.
The Police Public Relations’ Officer SP Catherine Anene who said the reason for the killing was not established, intimated that the suspect is already in police custody.
But a resident of the area who pleaded anonymity, said he sought to know the reason the woman poisoned her child and she explained that it was out of frustration.
Sughshater said her boyfriend impregnated and abandoned her after she gave birth to baby girl. She also, claimed to have experienced a lot of difficulties taking care of the child as there was no financial assistance from anyone.
The woman was said to have given the child a chemical used to kill grass.
“I and my child were in bed, at about 12:31 a.m, she started having high temperature (high fever), to a point that she gave up in an interval of 2 hours.
“The mistake I made was that I failed to inform my neighbours about what happened in the night to my baby.”
