Female Farmers in Taraba state has called for governments’ assistance in the area of procuring these agricultural equipments to easy farming in the nation.
The farmers who participated at the Taraba Women in Agri- Business forum organize by Farmfields Agro Allied services In partnership with African Women Power Network AWP in Jalingo stress that female farmers needs encouragement and financial support to boast food production in the country. The Participates identify lack of funds to procure them agricultural equipments as a major treat to war against food insecurity facing Africa.
The Managing Director of Farmfields Agro Allied services, Mr. Zanau Hassan said proper funding of agriculture particularly women who makes a larger number of rural farmers would increase food production in the country.
Hassan said women in agriculture businesses needs to be exposed to better opportunities for funding and marketing of their farm produce. He said the training is targeted at on sensitizing and empowering women in agriculture on innovative farming techniques, relevant skills and concepts for increased production. According to Hassan, the women who numbered over 200 were trained on planting, nutrient management and crop categorization for efficient farming He noted that the training indicates the preparedness of the private sector in helping a smooth and steady transition, and diversification of the nation’s economy from petroleum to agriculture. He also described it as a fulfillment of the public private partnership plea, towards the actualization of the millennium development goals. The AWP Network however expresses commitment to train women farmers in Taraba State.
AWP said its Agropreneur Program will teach innovative farming techniques through collaborative learning and workshops. “This program will allow women farmers in Taraba State, Nigeria to hone in on their entrepreneurial skills, increase farming productivity, and household income,” the network said in a statement.
