A three days workshop with a theme “Islamic Moral Values and growing spate of immorality: Challenges before the youths and what hope does that future holds”, organized by the Women in Da’awah Khairul Ummah, Taraba State Chapter, has commenced in Jalingo.

In her remarks at the workshop, which took place at the Taraba State Muslim Council Secretariat, the Amirah, Zainab Ibrahim said the purpose of the workshop is to sensitize the youth on the effects of social vices such as drug addiction, armed robbery, homosexuality and lesbianism.

The Amirah noted that in the name of civilization and human right, homosexuality and lesbianism has become fashionable, lamenting that both scriptures of the two major religions rightly pointed how Hudu (Lot) were destroyed for committing homosexual act.

She urged Muslims and Christians to continue to co-operate to resist ungodly acts and social vices and to continue to preach love, unity, peace and tolerances as was case against same sex marriage rejected by both faiths.

The commissioner, ministry of women affairs and child development, Batulu Mohammed said the workshop was timely and commended the organizers, while calling on parents to pay attention to their children, by monitoring their movements and lamented that the rampant cases of rape in the country calls for prayers.

Meanwhile, the Taraba state Coordinator, Quranic recitation competition, Ustaz Abubakar Kabri has reiterated the need for Muslims to encourage their children to participate in learning the Quranic arts and sciences.

Kabri, in his address at the opening ceremony of the Ardo-Kola local government edition of this year’s Quranic recitation competition held at Mayo-Ranewo village, said Allah has made it compulsory for Muslim to know how to recite the holy Quran.

He expressed concerned at the low turnout of Muslims during the opening ceremony and said if it were musicians that visited the village, the entire people of Mayo-Ranewo would have attended.

He confirmed that the state championship this year would be held at Takum and that preparation was on top gear, adding that the championship would include male and female categories one to eight.
