As several women’s rights groups took to the streets on Tuesday, protesting the rejection of Gender Equality Bill, Woman Rights Advancement Protection Alternative (WRAPA), has said that, women are more than men in Nigeria, hence they should take decision for the country.
WRAPA and the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in their separate protests in Kaduna demanded that the Gender Equality Bill should be represented to the National Assembly and be considered for speedy passage into law.
Officials and members of NAWOJ marched from the Kaduna State Council Secretariat of the NUJ on Muhammadu Buhari Way, through Independence way, to the state House of Assembly, carrying placards with different inscriptions like; “Progress for Women is progress for Society”, “We want all gender bills Represented and passed”, among others.
The Women journalists who are commemorating the 2022 International Women’s Day (IWD), with the theme,”Attaining Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow”, said the theme will remain an Illusion in Nigeria except a pragmatic approach towards attaining and balancing gender related issues in the country is adopted and respected by all.
