Towards the tail end of last year, Governor Dauda Lawal disclosed that his administration was making strides in the battle against banditry and related crimes in Zamfara State.

He inaugurated the first batch of the Community Protection Guards (CPG), recruited from all 14 local government areas of the state. Mobilisation and training did commence within weeks of the inauguration.

In Nigeria, it’s a well known fact that poverty, unemployment and lack of basic education/orientation has been the bane and major cause of banditry/insecurity in the nation. Governor Lawal, in his quest and determination to curb this menace, has set up vocational training centres across Zamfara State to empower the youths and women alike.

New hospitals are being built, the old and moribund ones are undergoing reconstruction and rehabilitation. Education, being a top priority of his administration, has taken a huge step in the overhaul of the state’s educational system.

A lot more developmental strides and transformation is taking place in Zamfara State within this short period of Governor Lawal’s new administration which is unprecedented.

Ikechukwu Nnamdi Okeke, president, Southern Nigeria Youth Movement, there are more pressing issues to be discussed in the southeast and not meddling into the affairs of Zamfara state whose governor is doing marvelously well.

The southeast is enmeshed with gory tales of kidnapping, murder and insecurity but Ikechukwu Okeke never deemed it necessary to address or apportion blame towards the stakeholders in the region.

The last time I checked, Ikechukwu Okeke is the president, Southern Nigeria Youth Movement and has no business being obtrusive in the affairs of the Northern Nigeria movement. I guess he’s just seeking cheap ublicity.
