It was a night to remember and reward for hard work for track sensation Tobi Amusan as she took home a whooping sum of $170,000 (about 72,075,678.60 Naira) in what has been a spectacular World Athletics Championship for her.
The Nigerian queen of tracks wowed athletics fans all over the world in the 100m women’s hurdles, after she wiped out the world record in the semi-final to clock a time of 12.12sec, and powered to win the final in 12.06sec in Oregon, United States.
Amusan was rewarded with a sum of $70,000 for winning gold at the event and $100,000 for her 12:12 World Record feat.
The $100,000 is from world’s leading electronic components and devices company TDK Corporation, who proudly funded the women’s world record programme at World Athletics Championships.
Meanwhile, Danielle Williams of Jamaica who won bronze and set a Seasons best for herself in the semi final where Amusan murdered it, was full of praise for the Nigerian.
Asked after the race about Amusan’s victory, she said, “Tobi literally spoke it into existence, she wrote on a board, ‘incoming world record holder’ and to see it unfold today, I’m proud of Tobi.
“It’s a reward for everything that she has been through.”
