World Cup Qualifiers: Why Awoniyi was not invited – Rohr

Date:

Nigeria’s Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has revealed the reason Union Berlin striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, was left out of the team.
Despite his recent good form Union Berlin both in the league and Cup games, the former Flying Eagles striker was left out of the players invited for the doubleheader world cup qualifier coming up this weekend.
His omission has brought up heated argument among the country’s football followers.
During a virtual press conference on Thursday organized ahead of the matchday one qualifier against Lone Stars of Liberia.
“There are people calling for Awoniyi while also there are those calling for other players. We can only bring three centre forwards, we already have Osimhen, we have Paul Onuachu, we have Terem Moffi who is doing well in Lorient and we even have Kelechi Iheanacho. So which among these players will I remove for Awoniyi to come in?
Awoniyi has represented Nigeria national team at all levels but has yet to make his debut with the Super Eagles.
